What’s the difference between gymnastics and cheerleading?

When you hear cheerleading, what's the first thing that comes to your mind? A halftime performance in basketball or baseball is a cheerleading performance, but can you think of any connection to gymnastics? In fact, cheerleading is similar to tumbling,a form of gymnastics. However, cheerleading is more of a performance element, similar to acrobatic dance, and has the feel of an artistic performance.

What's the difference?

Location is different.Cheerleading, like tumbling,is a sport played on the floor.Often you'll see cheerleaders perform during halftime of a major sporting event, where they're there to create the atmosphere and liven up the scene.

Gymnastics,on the other hand,is usually performed on spring pads or equipment, more for competition, full of tension and rigor.

The tumbling difference.Cheerleading also has tumbling, just like gymnastics.Cheerleaders most commonly do backhands and back knees, while gymnasts have more complex rolls and other moves that are much more difficult than cheerleading.

Training is different.Cheerleaders are generally trained to walk and dance and perform some difficult performances, while gymnasts' training is more boring and complicated than that.Cheerleaders are dancing to live music to help get the home fans and spectators excited.Gymnastics is about competing on a stressful arena.

Strength.Gymnasts require a much higher level of strength than most cheerleaders, especially upper body strength.Gymnastics requires long rolls and supports, cheerleaders can learn simple rolls without much strength.

Grade.Gymnastics has many levels, each with different standards and moves to master, while cheerleading is less rigorous.

Social differences.Gymnastics is a sport where gymnasts can form friendships, but it's more about strengthening their bodies.Cheerleading,on the other hand,is a show that promotes socialization.Because cheerleaders are in competitions, arenas and schools, and gymnastics are basically gymnastics studios, cheerleaders can get to know more people.

Injuries. You think cheerleading is easy,so it's not that easy to get hurt? In fact, cheerleaders are also very easy to get injured.Cheerleaders are performances on the inside,so it is necessary for the cheerleaders to often do some difficult movements.Generally, the coach or captain will find a player to be a "flyer",and the "flying man" is the cheerleader's Tossed into the air and caught by teammates below,if the teammates below do not catch, the cheerleader may be seriously injured or even killed.

In some ways, cheerleading can be scarier than high-level gymnastics because in cheerleading you need to put your trust and your life in the hands of others.

In conclusion

Many people who retire from gymnastics go to the cheerleading team, and those who retire from the cheerleading team may not be able to enter gymnastics.Whether you go to professional gymnastics or cheerleading, the fundamentals of gymnastics are the most important, and it is all about learning basic gymnastics movements.

Gymnastics can make you disciplined and rigorous, and cheerleading can satisfy some of your bold ideas. If you are a more rigorous and serious person, you can choose to learn gymnastics or challenge cheerleading. If you are a person with many ideas people, cheerleading is a good choice, but gymnastics can make a difference.
